What are the main advantages of “leads” over posting as “people” in the CRM?

H @Kurneesh, great question! The main advantage of using Leads is that it allows you to separate newer contacts from your main People list. The idea is that a new contact enters the system as a Lead. Once you get to know them, understand their needs, etc, then you convert them into a Person.

This allows you to:

  • Keep your main People list clean, and
  • If you have a user who works with new prospect, it gives them a distinct section to work in

I generally recommend using the Leads section if your organization:

  • Works with a lot of new contacts/prospects, and
  • You have a clearly defined qualification process for figuring out if a new contact is a good fit.

Some organizations prefer not to use Leads at all - they simply add a new Contact Type option for Lead or Prospect. This allows them to see all their contacts in their People list, rather than in two separate sections.
