Custom merge fields in email templates: now activated! 🚀

Hello Coppernauts, Get ready to take your email outreach to the next level with our latest update – it’s a juicy one! We're excited to announce that your custom fields can now be added to email templates, allowing you to personalize your messages at scale and standardize outreach– all within your saved template library!👀 The deets:Merge fields in email templates: You can now use custom merge fields in your email templates. Yippee! Expanded merge field options: In addition to your custom Leads, People, Companies, and Pipelines fields, we’ve unlocked new base fields like Lead Value, Person Description, and Company Contact Type.Boosted user experience: The merge field dropdown has been revamped to organize fields by entity, making it easier to find and insert the right information – and fast. ❓What can you use custom merge fields for? This is a popular customer request, and it’s not hard to see why! Imagine sending out a generic email to hundreds of prospects. Now, imagine sending the same amount of emails, but personalizing each email with relevant details specific to each recipient. That's the power of custom merge fields! By standardizing your outreach with merge fields in templates, you can ensure that every email you send is relevant, engaging, and tailored to your audience. Strengthen connection and trust: Personalizing messages with custom merge fields adds a more human touch, making recipients feel valued; inspiring trust and confidence between you and your audience. Boosted open and response rates: Emails that are personalized often have higher open and response rates. When people see their name or relevant details, they're more likely to be engaged. Keep it relevant: Including relevant details to the recipient's interests, company or the relationship you have with them makes the communication more meaningful, increasing the chances that the recipient will take action.Reminder: how to add merge fields to your email templatesCreate or edit an email template. Click the "+" icon or type "#" to insert a merge field. Select the desired merge field from the dropdown menu. ✔️ Best practicesUse merge fields strategically: Personalizing email copy leads to improved results and can help you avoid getting caught in spam filters when sending out templates multiple times in bulk emails and automations. Double-check your backup text: Ensure you have backup text for your merge fields so that the emails display properly if there’s no value for that contact. For example, add a backup of "there" for "#FirstName" and your email will read "Hi there!". Track performance (Professional & Business plans only): Monitor open rates, click-through rates, and other metrics to measure the effectiveness of your personalized emails. To learn more about Click Tracking (newly released, might I add!) click here.🚨 Good to knowSimilar to how Workflow Automation works, field names are fixed once inserted into an email template. We've implemented a new rule: all fields in email templates must have unique names. This prevents conflicts and ensures accurate merging. If you send an email template with Pipeline merge fields to a person, Copper will do its best to automatically determine the appropriate deal. Our intelligent logic can handle various scenarios. These new features are rolling out everywhere you send emails from Copper: the web app, the mobile app, the Chrome Extension, and Email Automations. Copper's newly added merge fields in emails offer a powerful way to personalize your email outreach even further than before. Start using them today and see the difference! Leave us a comment below and let us know how you’re using the new merge fields! 🤓 ❗️TEASER ALERT: We know there is another piece to the puzzle here… Pipeline Email Automations. Imagine automating outreach based on Pipeline stages… a feature that could be landing sooner than you think. Much sooner! Think before the end of the year 🤪 Stay tuned.  To merge fields, Amie

No more guessing — click tracking is here for the Business plan

We’re a little over halfway through a stellar 2024 at Copper, and we’ve been delivering on the vision we laid out at the beginning of the year 🚀 while also adding some surprises along the way.Today we’ve begun rolling out another surprise feature, and this time it’s a treat for our Business plan customers 🎁  👏 Automatic click tracking for emails sent from Copper 👏 Picture this…you’re sending project critical information to customers, and you need peace of mind that the message has been received. But open rates don’t show interest or intent. Now, with automatic click tracking, it’s easier than ever to keep tabs on the critical information you share with your customers.  How you can use this feature👀 Gauge a prospect’s interest and intentContracts Statements of work The new #BookingLink merge field🚀 Keep stakeholders on trackDesigns that need sign off Stakeholder approvals🚩 Recognize friction in your feedback processIf you’re sending surveys to qualify leads, assess project requirements, or collect feedback, click tracking can help identify friction points. High open rates but low clicks may indicate the email copy needs improvement. If both open and click-through rates are high but survey responses are low, consider refining the survey questions.  You must be on the Business plan and have Email Tracking enabled for open tracking and click tracking to work. Double-check this in Settings > Personal Preferences > Email Settings & Templates, then scroll down to Email Tracking. How it worksWhen you insert a hyperlink into an email in the Copper web or mobile app, Copper replaces the hyperlink with one that has a tracking token — but don’t worry, there’s no impact on your link, it’ll still go to the right place. Copper will then automatically track clicks as long as the email is sent from Copper.Clicks on a link will be automatically tracked if:The link is added to the email or email template via the Insert Link option in the toolbar of the email composer  You place a merge field with type = URL in an email or email template (this includes the new #BookingLink merge field!) The link is a hyperlink added to an inline image in an email or email template The email is sent from Copper: this means the email is sent from the web app or the mobile app Links in emails sent from the Chrome Extension, including links in email templates inserted in the Chrome Extension, are not tracked More info in the FAQ section below Where you can see clicksDon’t worry — we’ve got you covered. There are multiple places where you can view the clicks on links within your emails. We’ve added click tracking alongside open tracking, making it easy to find this new feature.Wherever you see the open envelope icon on an email activityIn the web app and Chrome Extension, you’ll see an open envelope icon if there are email impressions — including opens or clicks. Open envelope icon on an email activity Clicks and opens on the email activity In the mobile app, you’ll see a link if there are impressions on your email. Click in to see the opens or clicks.Email impressions in the mobile app  In My Tracked EmailsFrom the left-hand navigation of the web app, you’ll be able to see emails with click tracking right alongside open tracking. Hover over the open envelope icon to see the email impressions — including opens or clicks. You now have a new filter for Link Clicked in the upper right. New Filter in My Tracked Emails As part of outreach metrics for your email automationsWe’ve revamped the automations details panel to give you at-a-glance insight into how your outreach is performing. Here’s what’s new:New Clicked Links Tab: See the percentage of contacts who clicked a link, along with the specific link and date for each contact New Opens Tab: View the percentage of contacts who opened your email and the specific step they opened Updated Tab Headers: To Send: Shows the number of contacts queued vs. the total in the automation Sent: Displays the number of contacts emailed vs. the total in the automation Replied: Shows the percentage and count of contacts who replied Errors: Displays the percentage and count of contacts with deliverability issues Email Outreach Metrics  FAQsWill it show clicks per recipient?Recipients are not given unique links to click. The tracking token is on the link itself. Anyone who clicks the link will have their click tracked, including you. This shouldn’t be an issue for the 1x1 emails you send from Copper, including bulk emails and email automations — just don’t go into your Sent folder in Gmail and click the link yourself 😀 Will it track multiple links in an email?Yes! Any links in your email will be tracked, provided they are intentionally added as links as detailed above. What about existing email templates? You’ll want to delete and re-add any hyperlinked text, hyperlinked images, and/or URL merge fields to any email templates you created prior to this release. We are not able to retroactively add tracking tokens to links in email templates created prior to the release.   Need more info? We have a new help center article on the feature you can check out here. Let us know what you think! Share your feedback and questions in the comments below — we want to hear from you 👀 Cheers,Maggie

Copper Forms: introducing Fields!

We've been cranking out new features these past few months (thanks for keeping us on our toes!), but this one's a game-changer. We know this is the release you’ve been waiting for. This update enables you to capture the data you need to move a new relationship forward.Say goodbye to hodgepodge solutionsMany of you struggle with complex form builders and integrating submissions into Copper. We hear you loud and clear. Now, Forms lets you:Add existing custom fields to your form: No more maps or zaps — seamlessly integrate your custom data directly into Copper. Change display labels for a better user experience: Customize form field labels to match your brand voice without disrupting the field names in Copper. Rearrange, and remove fields with ease: Drag and drop to create the perfect flow, ensuring a smooth user experience for your customers.  Our brand new UI guides you through the process, making it easier than ever to create effective forms. Keep these tips in mindAutomatic updates to Copper records ensures your data stays organized and up-to-date. Focus on a clear and concise form, as adding too many fields can overwhelm users. Keep it focused for a more valuable experience. We’ve updated our Help Center articles on creating a Lead capture form or a Contact (People) capture form, as well as published a new article on how your form fields map to CopperCheck out the FAQ section for some more info 👇 Customer FAQs Can I embed the form on a specific page on my website?Currently no, you cannot embed the form standalone on a specific page. The form is delivered via the widget. However, you can specify a particular page for the widget to display on when you install it on your website. For example, if you have a Wordpress website you would follow all of the steps in our installation guide except for Step 8. For Location you would change Site Wide Header to the specific page you’d like the widget to appear on.  Can I have more than one form? I need to route potential customers and job applicants two different placesCurrently no, you can only have one form. However, you could create a custom field that would allow you to handle these inquiries in different ways. For example, if you create a custom field called “Interested in” and the options are “Hearing about services” and “Applying for a position”, you would then be able to use this field as a filter in your lists to create a List of form respondents who are potential customers and a list of form respondents who are job applicants. Can I mark fields as required? No - only the Full Name and Work Email fields are required. But we’re interested in hearing your feedback on this! Let us know in the comments or by submitting an idea. Would you prefer if a required field in Copper is also required on the form? Or would you prefer to set fields as required on the form, independent of whether they’re required in Copper? How does Copper handle Company matching for People records?First, if you’re using the Lead capture form, the Company field is plain text and can be added to your form. The below only applies to customers who have a Contact (People) capture form, as Leads and People behave differently in Copper. Currently, Copper has automatic Company matching if a new Person submits a form and we find an existing Company that is a match for the domain of their email address. For example, you have a company in Copper called “ACME Consultants” and a new Person submits a form with maggie@acmeconsultants.com as their entered email address. Copper has logic to take the email address and check it against existing domains in Copper. The result is that Maggie will be created as a new Person and related to the ACME Consultants company 🪄Copper does not yet have automatic Company creation. This is coming in the next two weeks. When that it released, if a new Person submits a form and there is not an existing Company that matches the domain, Copper will create the Person and the Company and relate the two. We’ll circle back to this thread when this enhancement is released! As a reminder, Copper will not update the Name, Email, or Company if an existing Person submits a form (as in, the email address entered on the form is an exact match for an existing Person record in Copper).   Get ready to build better Forms with CopperJump into your Copper account and explore the power of Forms today! We're confident this update will streamline your form creation process and help you capture all of that valuable data.Let us know what you think! Share your feedback and questions in the comments below, you know Luke and Maggie will be on standby. 👀 Cheers,Amie at Copper

Make your emails accessible to everyone: Add alt text to your images, ensuring everyone can understand your message, even if they use screen readers or if the images can't be displayed. So, how can you use them?Inline images aren't just bells and whistles — they're a powerful communication tool! Here are some industry-specific ways to leverage them:Universal appeal: Celebrate milestones with a fun "Happy Birthday" graphic or a congratulatory graphic for a client's big win. Agencies: Showcase your portfolio directly in emails with captivating images, or send clear headshots and bios of your team (advisors, entertainers, etc.) for a strong first impression. Automations: easier to find, easier to use

Hellooo Coppernauts! You’ve probably spotted the new addition to our left-hand navigation 👀 We’ve added a convenient shortcut to Automations, making it a breeze to navigate and keep things moving. But that’s not all — we’ve added a ton of little but fierce enhancements to Copper’s emailing features 🦾 plus more on the way!  Move relationships forward with new merge fields We’ve added two powerful new merge fields you can use in your email templates 💌 including #SenderFirstName, to make your communications more personal, and a brand new Booking Link field so you can give customers the option to book time directly with you. Use these new merge fields in your email automation email templates to help you deliver personalized outreach that moves the relationship forward.  Click your User avatar in the upper left to find the new Booking Link fieldThe new merge fields inside an email template Replace manual process with automation Ever find yourself caught up in the cycle of picking out the new contacts from your list and manually emailing them? What if we told you you could offload that onto Copper? 👀 We’ve added an option to our Email People on a specific List gallery template that allows you to send automated emails only to new contacts added to the list moving forward — so your list of vendors, volunteers, or contractors won’t suddenly get the “Welcome packet email” all over again. From the Email Automations gallery, select Automatically email People on a specific List -or- Automatically email Leads on a specific List. People List template Then select the Only new People added moving forward -or- Only new Leads added moving forward option. Only new People added moving forward Feel confident adopting email automations — we’ve got your back! If you’re one of our early adopters or have attended one of our webinars, you’ve no doubt taken a survey on what features or resources would make it easier for you to adopt Copper’s new Email Automations feature. Well, good news! We’ve recently released a ton of these requests — and have even more coming your way soon! Now you can create and edit the email template(s) for your automation right from the automation itself! No more bouncing around to make sure you’ve crossed your T’s and dotted your I’s — visualize the entire outreach experience in one place 👏  We’ve also added an enhancement to the Rekindle template, allowing you to choose a People List instead of a Contact Type. So if you segment your contacts into lists instead of by type, we’ve got you covered 🫡 Rekindle templateNew option to rekindle people on a list You’ll also see bounced emails in the Errors tab. But don’t worry, if the email bounced because of a misspelling or clerical error, you can correct it and the email will automatically retry the next day (according to the Sending Schedule).  A humanistic approach to automated emails Your business is built on relationships — fostering personal connections that turn into lifelong customers. We know you want to save time by automating your outreach, but not at the expense of that ✨personal touch✨ Well don’t worry, we are very intentional about ensuring our feature mimics human behavior. Your contacts should have no idea they’re receiving an automated email 🦾We recently released a feature to automatically thread automated emails as replies if the Subject lines match. You can use this to automate a follow-up and a nudge for a response. Now that you can create and edit the email template right from the automation, it’s even easier to ensure you have that Subject line match. Plus, with the new #SenderFirstName merge field that nudge can mimic what you’d do personally 🙌  But wait, there’s more to come! This summer we’re continuing to roll out new features to our email capabilities that will be available to all customers on all plans — plus some more customer requests for email automations!🥁 Drumroll please…Inline images are coming to Copper emails 😱 That’s right — one of your top requests is coming in just a few short weeks. You’ll be able to add an inline image anywhere you send emails from the Copper web app:When sending an email from someone’s profile Using the bulk email feature Creating and using email templates Yes, I have this image saved on my computer For our customers using email automations, you’ll be able to send a test email to ensure your outreach will appear as you intended in the recipient’s inbox. This was by far the winner of our surveys on features that would make it easier to adopt email automations.  Plus a ton more enhancements we have planned for this summer:Send the automated email(s) from a specific user Set the email automation as inactive/activeAnd as we’ve teased in multiple webinars and here in the Community, our next big release will be Pipeline email automations 🥳 Stay tuned for all the 411 as we get closer to this release. As always, I thank you all for your feedback and insights. You truly do help us make Copper better. I can’t wait to hear what you think about these little but fierce enhancements! Cheers,Maggie at Copper

[Webinar Recording] Copper Product Pulse - May 2024

Hey Copper Community 👋 Our latest Product Pulse webinar recording is here and we took a slightly different spin on this session 👀 Our product team walked through an end-to-end demo of our Pipelines feature, from managing a sales workflow all the way to project delivery and more. If you haven’t considered Pipelines for projects, it’s time to take a look — we might just have you ready to wave goodbye to your current project management tools, and hello to consolidated customer experience flows in Copper 👏For a seamless flow between revenue and non-revenue processes, we’ve made significant updates to our Pipelines including:👉 All new and customizable Pipeline templates to begin capturing and managing unique customer flows in minutes.👉 The ability to remove revenue tracking from existing project Pipelines to transition your flows and continue working with your tailored processes.👉 The introduction of “Project” and “Item” record types in Pipelines for flexibility when managing more than sales.👉 The ability to instantly duplicate a record from one Pipeline to another as a customer progresses through their journey with you — without any repetitive data entry. 👉 Alternate Pipeline statuses to better reflect the nature of non-sales processes, including: Open, Won’t Do, On Hold and Done.  We cover all of the above ⬆ in a quick use-case demo with our product team. Here’s a recording recap so you can jump to the topics most important to you: Our vision for Pipelines in Copper - 2:21 to 3:37 End-to-end demo kickoff - 4:25 Overview of a projects Pipeline in Copper - 5:54 to 9:05 Moving an opportunity in a sales Pipeline over to a project Pipeline - 9:06 to 11:43 How project Pipelines are related on the Company record - 11:44 to 14:49 How to create a project Pipeline - 15:28 to 17:55 How to duplicate an existing Pipeline - 17:55 to 18:11 How to transition an existing Pipeline to a project Pipeline by removing revenue tracking - 18:13 to 18:59 BONUS 🎉 Sneak peek at the new look and more coming to Pipelines - 20:55 to 22:09🌟 As mentioned during the session, we’re really excited about the adoption we’ve seen from customers who had additional team members on products like Asana, Monday.com and Trello to deliver projects. Visibility into customer communications is a critical part of project management, and they’ve seen huge value by getting all their users onto Copper. Yet, we know a one-size-fits-all pricing model might not work to make this transition. If you’re interested in bringing more users onto Copper, email us at sales@copper.com. We’d love to chat and provide flexible pricing options that works for you.Whether you’re new to Copper, a longtime customer or still checking it out, we hope you’re excited to explore the possibilities our flexible pipelines feature can bring to your business.  If you have feedback or questions, please share it in the comments section below ⬇️See you next time, Melanie at Copper

Automatically capture and nurture Leads with our newest features

Calling all customers using Leads in Copper 📣 We heard you loud and clear during our recent product webinars: you want to use forms and email automation with Leads — and we’ve delivered 🚀 Customers can now use our Forms widget to collect responses on their website and automatically create Leads in Copper. We’ve also extended the functionality of both single-step or multi-step email automations to allow users to send automated nurture campaigns to Leads and not just Contacts in Copper 🔥If Leads are part of your internal workflow, you’ll now be able to efficiently collect interested website visitors through form responses and automatically nurture these relationships — all within Copper 👏Your comprehensive lead nurture flow📍Note: You must have Leads enabled to see the options for leads in forms and email automation. If you don’t currently have leads enabled in your Copper account, you will not see these options How customers with Leads enabled can use this for their business: So your marketing initiatives are killing it and driving a ton of traffic to your website — hurray 🎉 With our Forms widget, you can capture these highly interested prospects directly into Copper as Lead records with both unique statuses and source information for precision tracking. Once in Copper, users can create a single or multi-step email automation (depending on their plan) to automatically nurture these leads with tailored messaging for example, thanking them for their interest and inviting them to book time with a member of your team. With this setup you’ll never miss an opportunity and start to build relationships instantly.   Here’s an overview of key functionality covered in this release ⬇️ Collect tailored data for actionable insights with LeadsTo better highlight key prospects and differentiate where new prospects are coming from, users can specify a Lead Status for leads created from form responses that’s different from the default for all other new leads created. Users will also be able to choose a specific Lead Source for leads created from form responses to better identify these hot prospects 🔥  Zero in on highly engaged LeadsYour highly engaged website visitors requested to connect by submitting a form response — now you can focus specifically on those new leads by creating a saved list filtered on your custom Lead Status and/or Lead Source. This way you know exactly who to go after with targeted messaging 🎯 If an existing Lead fills out a form, their record data (status or source) will not change.  See recent form submissions by Leads at a glanceQuickly check out and follow up on recent form responses by leads right from the Copper Feed as you start your day. If an owner has been assigned to leads created from form responses, those responses will appear on that user’s feed. Unassigned form responses by leads will appear in the general feed and can be filtered on by activity type 🔍  Effortlessly keep qualified web leads engaged with automatic nurturingSay goodbye to missed opportunities 👋 Automatically follow up with leads you haven’t heard from in a while with our rekindle automation, or get specific by creating a filtered list of Leads to engage with using tailored email templates. Business plan customers can add up to three steps to their follow-ups 🙌 Users can choose whether all leads on the list will receive the automated email or only new leads moving forward.   Maintain your engagement data as customers progress through their journey and provide a quality experienceWhen a Lead is converted into a Person, the form activities will transfer over to their Person record so your team will continue to have full insight into this relationship 👀 The Lead Source will transfer if an opportunity is created at the time a Lead is converted. If an individual was in an email automation as a Lead, they will be removed from the cadence to avoid any confusion in their customer journey.  For additional details on using Leads with email automation and forms, we suggest checking out these articles in our help center: Creating a Lead capture form Automating a single email to Leads Automating a series of emails to LeadsSimplify your Lead nurture process today with the power of forms and email automation and begin building connections instantly ✨If you have any questions or feedback, please leave a comment below ⬇️Melanie at Copper
