Automated task can't be completed

I have an automated task that I’ve been using for years without issue.  It trigger when an opportunity is changed to a specific stage.  With one specific opportunity, the task appears as unfinished every time I complete it.  I look in the completed tasks and it shows it completed every time, but a new unfinished task reopens.

I found my issue shortly after posting.  I inadvertently clicked the “set to repeat” link on the opportunity.  I don’t think I ever noticed that link there as our eyes get trained to only see what we need.  I knew only of the recurring settings when creating automation.  I figured I’d leave this up in case anyone else is as unaware or blind as me.
